Hi Everyone,
As term 3 draws to a close I have had one of the most challenging terms EVER and not only challenging but I feel as though the entire year was squashed into term 3.
Being a professional teacher, intern, volunteer, student especially in Education you encounter so many challenges and your life literally stands still because you will realise your life comes second in these moments. I for one, have made the choice to put my career first only because I genuinely love what I do.
I have been a private tutor for over two years and I am growing at a rapid pace, to the point where I am literally coming home after supper. I love it. One thing that has stood out for me is, I recently started tutoring a little boy with a fairly common learning disability which is Dyslexia.
Dyslexia is basically a specific learning disability in reading. They may also have trouble reading comprehension, spelling and writing.
The most intriguing fact about Dyslexia is the fact that kids who have dyslexia are FULLY able and are quite aware of their condition AND are not any less than their peers. It is important to know that Dyslexia cannot be outgrown but appropriate teaching approaches and strategies can result in successful learners. There are plenty success stories of actors and entrepreneurs who have this learning condition.
What I am trying to say is that, we are so stuck in a learning environment where we lack diversity and inclusively. We become so lazy and we stick to the the mainstream and think in one direction. There are so many kids who thrive in many different ways if we could just accommodate these kids and maybe- just maybe that kid that is always disruptive, is just needing a different teaching style or approach.
I love what I do and I really hope that if you are reading this, you feel inspired to be DIFFERENT and never try to be anything you are not.
Yours Truly,
Micaela
